Kraków (PL): All Saints, honouring the Martyrs

Scroll this

In the Catholic tradition,  All Saint’s Day is celebrated in honor of all martyrs and saints. So in Kraków people not only leave candles and flowers at the graves of their loved ones but also at various memorials (around town and at cemeteries). Particularly popular were the numerous memorials commemorating the (predominantly Roman Catholic) victims of communism – as modern day martyrs. I saw a lot of parents bringing their young children for a moment of contemplation, lighting a candle they brought from home and taking photos with their mobile phones.
